In the Writer’s House #10

Hello and welcome to another week in my crazy life!

I’m happy to say that I have met with Lucy, my cover designer earlier this week. We discussed colors, fonts, and images I’m interested in using on the cover of Heir Force, my military romance coming out this fall. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with!

On another Heir Force front, I am now done with initial edits. I do need to find answers to a few questions before it goes to first/beta readers, but I’m getting excited. I’m now writing the acknowledgment and dedication pages, etc. I am also working on the book’s press release and will work on other marketing materials on my list. I have a lot of material on book launches to read and a timeline to follow the best I can.

Over the weekend, we celebrated daughter number 1’s birthday, and now we are done with them for a while. We went to our city’s homecoming parade and then had dinner and birthday cake. She is now 18 and looking for a job.

Book Delivery

I received my box of writing/marketing books in the mail yesterday and am excited to start reading through them. I am always learning and reading about this marvelous gig of indie publishing. If I could clone myself into three more people, I still don’t think I could get everything done, but I can only do so much.

My order included two books by David Gaughran (mentioned in an earlier post), two by Joanna Penn, one by Chris Fox, and one by James Scott Bell and one on writing short romance stories for Kindle.

Speaking of books, I have checked out so many library books in the last couple weeks in anticipation of finishing my edits on Heir Force. Though I will be doing other work, in preparation for the book launch, I look forward to reading more in the coming weeks, as a little break and reward for hard work. Writing novels is not for the faint of heart, after all! Several in the pile are legal/police thrillers, a handful of WWII, Richard Paul Evan’s latest, a couple historical mysteries, a couple contemporary romance and more marketing/social media titles. I was afraid to count them.  Am I crazy, or what? (You don’t really have to answer that!):)

I am doing as much work as I can in the remaining weeks of our summer before our new home school year starts up again. I always wither a little inside when we start a new year and I have to put much of my writing work aside, but what am I to do? This is what works best for our family and I have no regrets. Just wish again I could clone myself! 🙂

That’s it from my corner of the world.  What will you be doing in your remaining weeks of summer?
